Among the varied activities of the Department, an Inter-Collegiate
Poster Presentation Competition was held on September 3, 2009 at
11.45 hrs in the Chemistry Department. The Chemistry Department aims
at providing opportunities for a holistic development of the
students. The activities are focused to bring about an all-round
development of the students which would include academic excellence
as well as a development in other aspects. They also aim at
developing certain values in the students and make them responsible
citizens and thus contribute to the national development.
While preparing for the competition, the student have demonstrated
their ability to work together in a group, thus that values like
team spirit, brotherhood, unity, equality are inculcated among the
students was very obvious. It even brought about the leadership
qualities of the students. The sincerity and dedication with which
the TYBSc Chemistry students made the arrangements for the Poster
Presentations showed that they were ready to help even their
competitors from the other colleges.
The topic for the presentation was ‘Recent Advances in Chemistry’.
While preparing for the presentation, the students have been surfing
the net and exploring the various sources of gathering the latest
information. Thus through this competition the department promotes
the use of ICT. While investigating the various sources of
information the students come across technologies and experimental
techniques that are of practical importance. They are also exposed
to certain aspects of the subject that are not much known on this
side of the globe and thus the students acquire knowledge and skill
at par with their global counterparts. The students prepare for the
competition in such a way that they are able to put forward their
best. By aiming for the best, they demonstrate a quest for
excellence.
The Inter-Collegiate Poster Presentation Competition was inaugurated
by Fr. Jommon and Fr. Benny.
Eighty students from five different colleges participated in the
competition. Twenty five posters displaying the creative talents and
demonstrating the students urge for knowledge were presented by the
students.

A memento & certificate each for the First, Second and Third
Position
A certificate of participation to all students who presented
posters
The Best Poster, cash award of Rs. 500 & a certificate
The valedictory function, graced by Fr. Benny was held at 2.30pm in
Room No. C 06. While congratulating all the students for their
participation, Fr. Benny appreciated the efforts put in by the
participants and awarded the prizes to the winners.

Prakash & Bhamani Niraj, Christ College, Rajkot

At the valedictory function, Dr. Sudhir Joshi, on behalf of the
judges, advised the students on what should be the focus in a poster
presentation and also guided them on how to improve upon their
presentations.
The coordinator for the Competition was Dr. Sushmita Ganguly,
Assistant Professor, Dept of Chemistry, Christ College, Rajkot.
The inaugural function was anchored by Dr. Sushmita Ganguly and the
valedictory function was anchored by Ms. Jalpa Kotecha.
